Since starting my “take a class a month” quest, I have been talking to my friends about it, and I am excited to start getting requests from different people to join them in learning something new together! Recently, my friend Sheila called me and asked me to learn some origami with her… specifically for Christmas ornaments and such. We did it at my house and learned what we needed to do through YouTube videos!

Sheila came over and we got started with what we thought would be a simple star – it was a bit more complicated than we expected, and we watched a few different videos before coming up with a finished product. It looked nice, but honestly, we weren’t sure how it worked. Magic, I guess.

We moved on to a few tiny wreaths, and a few larger ones. Sheila’s’ husband Dan came by and tried a few things too. It was a fun night, and I ended up making a few more wreaths in the ensuing days. Next, I need to make some origami bows for the wreaths!

A few of the key take away from the session:

1. Make sure the folds you make are very precise. It makes it easier in the long run.

2. There are a ton of YouTube videos. If there is one that is confusing, there will be others that are easier to understand.

3. Have some wine and do this with a few friends, it makes it so much better!
